I would love to say that attending Mass was the highlight of our weekend. Easter Mass is the climax of the Catholic year and holds much meaning, for me especially, but Mass With Toddler has yet to be an enjoyable experience and I think Kevin and I are both looking forward to being able to actually teach Leo about Mass and have it rationally understood. Perhaps if the priest spoke in caveman-speak (a language we are fluent in at home) and the music sounded like a carnival, Leo might be able to absorb it, but toddlers do not understand the reflective mood, prayerful reception and theological or inspiring homilies that make up Mass, thus we spend most of it in the foyer. But we know this is a phase and it too shall pass. And I do believe that God sees our hearts are there, even when our minds are stuck in the bowl of cheerios that just decorated the floor beneath the pew. Let's just hope He doesn't mind the Hot Wheels being present.
We did have a lot of fun with the egg hunts, a subject right up a toddler's alley. Find an egg, put it in the basket, continue. And Leo was very independent about carrying the basket, half as tall as him, by himself. Though once he found out the eggs were filled with candy, he became what we shall lovingly call the "Nasty Candy Monster", very obsessed by this newfound treat, and therefore his access is now very limited. We also were crazy enough to dye eggs with him. He loved to put them in the glass, but really had a hard time with waiting for t
hem to finish dying and then not touching them once they're done. We had a few meltdowns which resulted in me finishing them by myself. Finding them hidden in the backyard the next day was again, much fun for him, and though I was worried he would try to open these for the candy inside, he did not remember and we were safe.
We ended our Easter Day celebrations with dinner at the Kosmicki's and enjoyed great food and fellowship. As we continue on through this Easter Season, we grow more thankful everyday for the blessing of salvation and the love of our family and friends.
