Men love boats

I have decided there is something about men and boats. Yesterday we went to see the Tall Ships from all over the world docked here in Charleston. Kevin was so excited to tell Leo all about the ships, how they work, what they do, and Leo seemed just as interested. I was disappointed we didn't get to see any with their sails up, but we couldn't stay long enough to see them sail off up the coast. We did run into sword-fighting, swash-buckling pirates and snapped a few pictures. By the end of the day Leo was tuckered out.











Leo is also very interested in self-feeding these days. He seems to be outgrowing his desire for the bottle and would rather sit up in the highchair where he can socialize and shovel food in his mouth. He then proceeds to SHOW us just how much he can get in there and he thinks that's pretty funny. He's quite the little character! And if you are not paying attention to him, he will stop eating and stare you down as he's done to our friend Angie several times now. To give you an idea of how tall he is, he's about as tall as the bottom of our dining table and wearing 12/18 month clothes.
He is now crawling so I don't have to be a human taxi quite as much, but it also means we have to get busy childproofing the house! Yesterday we visited a retirement home and he crawled so fast across the floor that the residents all cheered. They really ate him up, and one wanted to hold him though I was really afraid he would yank out her oxygen tube but he was quite a little gentleman.

Sadly we have to bid farewell to our friends Eric and Angie moving up to VA. Angie and her two dogs and two cats have been staying with us for the week and Leo has LOVED the extra activity. Angie's two dogs Calyx and Bella are husky mixes and are big enough to walk over Leo, but so sweet and gentle with him, though Bella's not too sure what to make of him. Abby and Taylor have been showing off all week for them and being playful bullies to the cats. On Friday we had a scare when Calyx and Bella escaped through the front door and ran through the surrounding neighborhoods. At one point while searching for them we saw boys on their bikes riding as fast as they could and screaming "Help! There's another one!" And though we know they wouldn't hurt a soul, they look pretty intimidating. We finally caught up to them about an hour later in someone's yard, thankfully only a little dirty and very tired.
